Commissario Montalbano Punta-Secca Ragusa Scicli

Discovering the sceneries of "Commissario Montalbano" movies

Punta Secca (Marinella)

Punta Secca is Marinella, the romantic seaside village where Salvo Montalbano, police commissioner of Vigata, lives and when possible hosts Livia, his eternal girfriend. Some photos show the house and the bay where Montalbano swims in most of the movies. The renowned Montalbano's house with the suggestive terrace over the bay is a well known bed & breakfast at the end of the street in front of the historical tower 'Torre Scalambri', also shown in some movies. Walking in the village you can recognize the small touristic port and the old lighthouse of 1853 with the beach at the front present in many scenes of the movies. But together with the view of the movies sceneries by visiting Punta Secca you can also enjoy the smell and the taste: seafood restaurants and street food taverns with 'Arancini', typical Sicilian street food mentioned in the Montalbano's movies.

Ragusa Ibla (Montelusa/Vigata)

The panoramic view over the city in the photos is one of the video shootings at the beginning of every movie: Ragusa Ibla, or simply Ibla, is the lower side of the new Ragusa city. Located on a hill dominating the beautiful valley of the river Irminio, Ibla in the daylight looks an historical flashback, as if time had stopped there... while in the night from the road it appears like a Christian Nativity. Walking along narrow streets and alleys sometimes you loose the cognition of the time and the current XXI century is recognizable only by modern signs, doors and electric lights; since some houses and buildings still maintain the original architecture of XVIII century. Together with the countless historical palaces, churches, hidden garden terraces, and seductive corners you can recognize some scenery locations of Commissario Montalbano's movie based on the novels of the writer Andrea Camilleri: Church San Giorgio, San Giuseppe, Santa Maria delle Scale, Circolo di Conversazione (the private club where Montalbano often goes inside to look for Doctor Pasquano while he is playing cards) ... and visiting Ibla you can enjoy cuisine, wines and artisanal pastries. Together with typical restaurants, taverns, pizzerias, wine bars, pastry shops visitors and travellers can also choose high level restaurants with starred chefs and food menus where traditional specialities are proposed in modern and innovative interpretations..., together with delicious desserts and fine wine lists.

Scicli (Vigata)

The Police station of Vigata, may be the most filmed scenery in the Commissario Montalbano's movies, is in the reality the beautiful building of Scicli's City Hall; almost an idyllic location for a hard working office. With the typical buldings and houses built with clear limestone, the city center of Scicli is full of light at every corner. Rebuilt in the XVIII century after the earthquake of 1693 Scicli preserves the Late Baroque style that we can admire today in the beautiful and relaxing city centre with churches (San Matteo, San Giovanni Evangelista, San Bartolomeo, San Michele...), decorated noble palaces (Beneventano, Fava, Spadaro...) and buildings of different periods in the main streets and in the charming tiny alley. Beauty, light, quiteness, hospitality,... food & wines (again!) and soft sand beaches at a short distance complete the motivations to visit Scicli and spending there some days to discover its hidden treasures.
