Villa Romana del Casale with the mosaics of III century a.D.

UNESCO site since 1997. Villa Romana del Casale is an ancient Roman villa of III-IV century a.D. The original building included 60 rooms among living rooms, event halls, baths, thermae, gym... for a total surface of 3500 sq mt (37,700 sq ft) fully floored with mosaics. This monument is the most important historical remain of the Roman civilization in Sicily and the widest mosaics collection in Italy with decorations, portraits and amazing snapshots of the real life in the Roman Empire. The mosaic tiles are made with stones of various natural colours that have resisted the wear of time for centuries and centuries.
